About

My name is Laila and I am an aspiring housewife.

I work full-time as a writer and while I love my job, my goal is to generate enough passive income online to be able to stay home and be a ninja.

Creating a life that reflects your values and satisfies your soul is a rare achievement. In a culture that relentlessly promotes avarice and excess as the good life, a person happy doing his own work is usually considered an eccentric, if not a subversive. Ambition is only understood if it’s to rise to the top of some imaginary ladder of success. Someone who takes an undemanding job because it affords him the time to pursue other interests and activities is considered a flake. A person who abandons a career in order to stay home and raise children is considered not to be living up to his potential — as if a job title and salary are the sole measure of human worth.

I have been trying for years to explain what the brilliant creator of Calvin and Hobbes summed up in the paragraph above.

My mother was a housewife and I grew up watching others, notably working women, look down on her. They assume she stays at home because she isn’t educated.

Such arrogant ignorance.

My mom is a degree holder in social science and worked for several years until my dad was able to secure an income that supported the entire family.

Another assumption is that housewives are lazy…

Not that I feel the need to defend myself for wanting to be a stay-at-home mom / housewife / whatever people want to label it as. I’m just sayin…

So anyway, this blog is a journal of my journey.
