13 Things I Vaguely Remember From The Vintage Camera Museum In Singapore
I visited the Vintage Camera Museum in Singapore. It’s very small but packed with awesomeness. Plus, there’s a trick-eye gallery where you can take cutesy pictures of yourself with paintings that have come to life. Admission is pretty cheap and it’s a great way to spend a few hours learning about history and having a good time.
The Vintage Camera Museum in Singapore
The outside is already so cute. You walk through the lens to get to the museum.
A guided tour of the museum
On top of an affordable admission rate, the one person who looks after the museum also gives tours if you’re interested. I was interested. He was lovely. Just such a sweetheart. And so knowledgeable. But you know, I’m not very clever so I honestly don’t remember shit from the tour.
But I do remember that the guide knew every detail about every camera and the Vintage Camera Museum is home to over 1,000 cameras. He was ace. I’m just shit.
Here’s all I remember based of the pictures I took.
1. Crazy looking spy cameras
This is some legit James Bond spy stuff. A drinking flask, a whoooole load of transformer toys, lighters, and other seemingly random everyday objects were built to house teeny, tiny cameras back in the day. Imagine what they have now.
THE LIGHTER IS A CAMERA WTF.
Ok, this is not so discreet. Maybe this was just a toy/robot/camera and not a spy thing. See? Told you I don’t remember anything from the tour.
2. Super dope old school Polaroids
You may recognise this dude as the Instagram logo! Now that I remember hahaha.
3. Wartime cameras to spy on the ‘enemy’
Why would they build a camera to look like a gun? I remember asking that. And I remember the guide explaining why. And then I was like OHHHHHHHH WOOWWWWW. But I don’t remember what he said sorry.
4. I think these are Leicas because my phone was excited to meet his ancestors
5. Hmm… these look like camcorders.
But I do remember being like OH ARE THESE CAMCORDERS? And the guy was like, oh no, they are regular cameras but they have a unique shape because something something shutter.
6. Uhhh… I think this camera took like 8 hours or 4 hours or a certain number of hours to take one picture
I know it says DON’T TOUCH in the background but the dude said Yes, it’s ok you can touch. Please don’t blacklist me, Singapore. I love u.
7. The World’s Smallest Camera
What even is the point of this lol.
8. Some slidey thing
I have no recollection of what this thing does.
9. SPY PIGEONS
Ok, this I remember. Back in the day, they used to strap cameras on pigeons and have them fly over enemy territory to take pictures. The cameras could only take one picture, so it’s just a hit and miss thing.
10. Oh, these are the cameras that I thought were camcorders but are actually regular cameras
Do you like reading my blog?
11. A bunch of cute Kodaks
12. This is our awesome guide showing us something
I guess he was showing us how to take a picture on this giant ass thing. Even though it’s a big camera, the picture comes out small. Something about needing more light or something. And there’s a tiny pinhole?
13. There are lots and lots and lots of cameras
Awww look at me all not pregnant. There’s a selection of cameras at the counter that you’re allowed to hold and take pictures with. It’s super fun. I like museums in general, but this was very cute and unique. Love it.
The trick-eye museum
It’s a small separate room. I’m not very into taking pictures of myself you know. So. I just watching the others do it. Then I got bored. Then we left.
