This is a super late post but I just wanted to say that I tried…
Here’s A Not-So-Great Review Of KGB, Killer Gourmet Burgers, In TTDI
KGB aka Killer Gourmet Burgers is nothing new but Mr Ninja and I had never tried them before. With all the hype surrounding them we were curious. So we stopped by the TTDI branch to see what the fuss was all about.
TL;DR: The restaurant is very nice, the service is excellent, the food falls short imo.
The Food
We love burgers. And when I say ‘we’, I mean me. Or rather, I. Whatever. I love burgers. KGB is famous for their burgers. Their burgers are ok. We were disappointed. Maybe we didn’t order the right burgers. I don’t know.
Mr Ninja ordered the KGB Spiked Beef:
It tasted really basic. Like a standard beef burger. Nothing special about the sauce or the patty or the flavour. It wasn’t particularly juicy or succulent. Just basic.
I had the Portobello Bomb.
IMO the fried coating on the portobello mushrooms was way too thick that I felt like I was just eating a fried bread burger. The special sauce didn’t taste very special. Everything was so bland. Even the thick coating on the mushrooms was bland. I threw some pickled jalapenos in there from the chicken wings we ordered, that added some flavour to it.
The two boys ordered The Shack (chicken).
Burgers are huge. Sulaiman couldn’t finish his.
Ayub finished his. This is his review. “The burger is like too slippery, it keeps falling apart. And I don’t like the cherry tomatoes. And I don’t like the lettuce. And I don’t like the cheese. And I don’t like the chicken. McDonald’s and Burger King and all the other burgers taste nicer.”
Oh dear, thumbs down from Ayub. But he’s just a kid so what does he know, right?
I gotta agree that even Burger King is tastier though. Must be all the unhealthy stuff they put in their burgers. But also… hmmm… myBurgerLab and Sixty Bites are tastier too. Mr Ninja’s all-time favourite burgers are from Burger Junkyard. Don’t know if they’re still tasty. It’s been a while.
We also ordered salted egg chicken wings.
I don’t know man. Again, I felt like the coating was too thick that I didn’t even taste any chicken. Aisha hated them. But she’s super picky and salted egg is a really strong flavour.
And we ordered salt and pepper fries to share.
More like pepper fries. I hate pepper. Sorry. Sulaiman ate most of the fries. They were good actually. But the pepper… eeee.
Here’s a blurry pic of the menu:
Price range is around RM16-RM25 (ish).
I’m making it sound like the food is bad. It’s not bad. We all ate finished our burgers (except Sulaiman). It’s just that, for the price and the hype, we expected more. More flavour, more creativity, more mind-blowing burgers. It was good. But we won’t ever crave it. Probably will never go back again.
FOOD: 2.5/5
The Ambiance
The restaurant is really nice. Clean and stylish, cozy and comfortable. They have games to keep you occupied while you wait for your food. All in all, super awesome place to hang out.
AMBIANCE: 5/5
The Service
You have to order by yourself at the counter. I brought the kids a game to keep them busy while we waited for the food, but they didn’t even have time to finish because the food came out really quickly. Awesome service. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Just excellent.
SERVICE: 5/5
Final Thoughts
The place is nice to lepak with friends. I can totally see myself doing that and chomping down on chicken wings… but they’re famous for their burgers and I just don’t get it. I think we ordered the wrong burgers. Maybe their other stuff is better. I don’t know.
We were disappointed in the food but everything else was cool.
