We Withdrew Our Autistic Child From School To Be Fully Homeschooled

SCHOOL.

The #1 question I receive. “What’s a good school to send my special needs child?”

I really don’t know.

We’ve tried SO many places. Sekolah kebangsaan with PPKI, private school, learning centre, unschooling, online school.

Pros and cons to all. Eventually, as Ayub grew, the cons outweighed the pros. So we’d change again.

After a year in a private learning centre, Ayub and I decided it’s no longer a good fit. I don’t like that he’s not in control of his learning and that he’s forced to follow the speed and progress of his peers. Every kid is different ya know?

Too many nights of him crying over homework because he just doesn’t understand what he’s supposed to do. I spent so many hours teaching him myself that eventually we were both like, what even is the point of this? Let’s just do this at home, at our own time, together.

And so. We did it. Or we’re doing it. Or rather, we’re gonna do it.

I withdrew Ayub from school and we are HOMESCHOOLING.

Full-time. O. M. G. I am terrified.

Today is his last day of school in the learning centre. They’re having their end of year party before summer holidays. I’ve been searching curriculums and books and online programmes. And I am FREAKING OUT.

He’s supposed to officially start homeschooling on Monday. I am not prepared. AAAAAAARRRGHHHHHH!

That’s all. Thank you for reading.
