Stressed over the thought of bringing the kids out? Not sure what to do this…
Our Daily Homeschool Schedule During MCO For Kids
I thought I would just let the kids chill at home and not really bother doing anything. But after a week of chilling, it got to be too much chilling. So we set up a homeschool schedule during the Movement Control Order.
So far it’s been pretty good. Very relaxed and flexible, but with daily goals to achieve.
- Two hours each of online school
- Completing whatever work is sent by their real schools
- One hour of silent reading
- No more screens after 5.30pm
I ordered a bunch of puzzles from Lazada for each of the kids. Will probably order more stuff like that to keep them busy and happy. They’ve also been painting and sketching and journaling whenever. And playing. Lots of play.
Anyway, here’s our daily homeschool schedule during MCO:
8am – Wake up and morning exercise
The kids wake up between 8am and 9am. So we just kinda get started when they’re ready to get started. For the exercise, we YouTube kid exercise and they’ll pick whatever they wanna do.
Usually between 15-30mins. Depending on the video they choose.
9am – Breakfast and shower
All the kids prepare their own breakfast, so I count that as home economics / life skills / homeschooling. Haha. Whether it’s cereal and milk, scrambled eggs on toast, or something else, it’s all on them.
10am – First shift for online school, other two silent reading
Aisha gets the first shift of online school.
Right now we’re using education.com. I paid for a membership of US$8 per month. Can sign up as many kids as you want under one membership. Plus you can cancel anytime with not extra fees.
It’s very cute. Different grade levels and lots of interactive games. Right now the kids are just playing whatever games they want.
There are maths, English, typing, and coding games. All at different levels, depending on your kid. So Aisha is at preschool level, Sulaiman at grade 2, and Ayub at grade 5.
I’m buying a printer so I can print out the worksheets and they can do those too if they want.
11am – Silent reading ends, the other two get free time for an hour
Ayub usually practises his drums then plays with his phone.
Sulaiman has online work sent from his school so he completes it very quickly. Then he disappears into his room. Either playing with his LEGO or journal or phone.
12pm – First shift for online school ends, lunch break
Lonch monch monch.
1.30pm – Second shift for online school starts
Sulaiman gets the second shift. He’s the most productive at online school of course.
3.30pm – Third shift for online school starts
Ayub is the last. He’s the most difficult to keep motivated. He likes coding the most. And he’ll code these super complicated paths for this lil cat to make. Then he’ll laugh and laugh and laugh as the lil cat rolls around the screen.
5.30pm – End of screen time for all, play, talk, lepak, journal
This is the time when the boys will complain they are bored and will roll around the floor and whine and I will ignore because I’m still working and I don’t care if they’re bored.
It’s good to be bored.
Ignites creativity and innovation. Sometimes. Other times it just results in silly, whiny babies.
6pm – Shower
Self-explanatory thanks.
6.30pm – Get dinner ready and eat
Nom nom.
7.30pm – Chill time (the boys are marathoning Avatar: The Last Airbender on Netflix)
Yay.
9pm – Bedtime
They sleep whenever to be honest. But the baby sleeps at 9pm. If Aisha didn’t nap during the day, she also goes to bed around 9pm. I think the boys stay up til around 10 or 11pm.
Overall the kids have been amazing
