I just discovered some old pictures of Ayub on my laptop that the hubby saved…
Ayub Joined The Children’s Spartan Race 2018 Then He Had A Meltdown
The ActonKL kids decided to register for the Spartan Race this year. I don’t know why. We had to wake up super early on a rainy Saturday and drive all the way to Putrajaya. Was it worth the trouble? Hell yeah, it was awesome!
Registering on race day
It was pouring down when we arrived so the kids were already excited to get soaking wet. I thought the signage was pretty bad and there wasn’t really anyone to help us (may have been the heavy rain), so we didn’t really know what to do. But it’s ok. Mr Ninja figured it out and got Ayub his race gear and everything.
Super pouring down with rain.
Look how cute and excited he was. That would change in about an hour’s time. 😛
Getting ready for the Spartan Kids Race
Ayub didn’t do any training whatsoever. He’s always been very active, I mean he has ADHD. But I realised that his ADHD is really just restricted to fidgeting rather than fitness haha. He’s still super fit. Ayub is a sprinter and not a long-distance runner. But I think I overestimated his athletic ability a bit. In any case, he did really well and I’m so proud of him.
Here’s what the obstacle race looked like.
On your marks, get set, go!
This was near the last leg of the race and he was just exhausted. See him in his red shorts. His stamina is kinda lacking. His occupational therapist said it’s because he lacks core strength, which is common in autistic people.
Crossing the finish line
I should really get the video put together of this but I’m lazy so you’ll have to use your imagination.
Ayub was upset at the end. Really, really tired. And angry at me for shouting at him to run faster. Sorry Ayub. You’re just so cute. I LAFF YOUUUU. He got a really dope medal. The best one of his collection to date.
He was much happier once reunited with his friends.
Dealing with a meltdown post-race
It’s rare that Ayub has a meltdown as we as a family and he as an individual have learned to avoid situations that will trigger meltdowns. But the Spartan Kids Race triggered one. He was just so exhausted mentally and physically. And was very upset with me for pushing him to keep going during the race.
We went to my parents’ home after the race and Ayub took a shower and freshened up. The moment he came downstairs he just broke down. Poor baby. Lots of hugs and massages and unwinding with the phone, and he was back to his usual happy self. Not sure if he’ll want to go back next year. I hope he does. It’s lots of fun.
