I just discovered some old pictures of Ayub on my laptop that the hubby saved…
Ayub Starts Ice Skating Lessons At MYNISS In Empire City, Damansara Perdana
ActonKL school chose ice skating lessons for PE once a week for the little ones. Ayub’s first class was a little tricky for him. But by the end of the 6-week programme, he was pretty good? I think. According to him he was good. Whenever I saw him on the ice he was goofing around with friends or pushing the seal thingy around.
MYNISS – Malaysia National Ice Skating Stadium in Empire City, Damansara Perdana
The ice skating lessons were conducted at MYNISS in Empire City. That mall is super under construction. It’s huge and empty and only like 10% is open to the public. Within that 10%, I think only 5 restaurants and MYNISS is operating. And this is where the ice skating sports were held for the SEA Games last year. So embarrassing. Our athletes deserve better.
I can’t imagine the international community and professional athletes coming all the way to see this place. One year after the games and it’s honestly a construction site. Can’t imagine what it was like during the games.
Anyway, the one upside to a dead mall is that parking is free. So back to ice skating… Here’s the rink:
Here’s the inside area where skaters get their skates and stuff. It’s mandatory to wear gloves, but if you don’t have your own you can buy a pair at the counter. They’re only RM9.

Ayub’s first lesson at MYNISS
The kids have never gone ice skating before so Ayub was really excited. I asked Sulaiman if he wanted to join, but he said no. Fatty bom bom nerd. He’s more mathlete than athlete.
Aisha, on the other hand, REALLY wanted to try. But she’s too young, sorry baby girl.
Stepping on the ice for the first time! (See that seal pushing thingy in the back! Ayub loves that thing. You have to pay extra for it.)
Part of the rink is sealed off for the kids’ class so other customers can skate around freely without disturbing the lesson and vice versa.
For the first lesson, the kids had to go around the rink, holding on to the sides for support if needed, to get used to being on the ice. It pretty much took the whole 1-hour lesson for Ayub to go one round.
He fell. Several times.
He finally reaches one round. Hahaha. Poor baby. Look at his face.
Ayub midway through the programme
He’s much better after a few classes. Is able to skate around the ice and turn and stuff. He’s wearing all black:
The best part of MYNISS @ Empire City is the Nelson’s at the entrance
I love corn in a cup and chocolate waffles. So the kids also love corn in the cup and chocolate waffles. Every week I bought corn in a cup and chocolate waffles for them. I miss ice skating class because now we no longer eat corn in a cup and chocolate waffles once a week anymore.
MYNISS kinda sucks for me but Ayub still loves ice skating there
I’m just very disappointed that it’s supposed to be the MALAYSIA NATIONAL ICE SKATING STADIUM and it looks like shit.
I mean, look at the toilet. Stuff is broken in there. And it’s only been open for less than a year?! I didn’t take a picture of the toilet itself but… it looks like the toilet you see at a mamak restaurant. You know? It’s that level of clean… Hmmmm…
I think the overall design of the rink and the mall must be bad or something. I’m no expert. But there was condensation all over the ceiling, which meant water was constantly dripping on to the floor. This left puddles of water everywhere, on the shopping mall floor. And you know how kids run around and play. It’s just dangerous to me.
I’ve never seen this problem in Sunway Pyramid. So I think it’s a design problem. Wet patches all over the floor:
The stadium area with all the seats… omg so many seats are just covered in water. But whatever, who am I to judge. Everyone else seems fine with it. Aisha is happy.
