[DAY 1] Family Holiday In Thailand: Trains, Planes, And The Windmill Phuket Hotel

This was Aisha’s first time on an airplane and our first family holiday overseas. I mean, we went to Singapore previously but that doesn’t really count because it was just a day trip and… it’s Singapore.

So here was the itinerary for DAY ONE:

Packing and checking in and hanging out in KLIA

Aisha was super excited to fly in an airplane and go on holiday. She constantly insisted on helping to pack and packed herself (literally into the bag) on multiple occasions leading up to our departure.

I think I pretty much packed her entire wardrobe because I’m not good at packing. Mr Ninja was not happy. But we flew Malaysia Airlines and got like 30kg luggage allowance each so… hah!

We brought two large bags, one carry-on, and the stroller. It was juuuust nice. Although Mr Ninja will argue it was too much. He wore like the same outfit every day. Men are weird. I like clean clothes.

PRO TIP: Do not try to self-check in MAS at KLIA. It super sucks. We have to add everyone’s details one-by-one even though all the tickets were purchased at the same time. And in the end, it didn’t even work. So we had to go to the counter anyway haha.

Mr Ninja was not happy. Again. He’s so grumpy. Ew.

We went to the airport super early so had lots of time to kill. The kids have been wanting to ride a train since forever but ya know, because me and Mr Ninja are lazy asses we never brought them on the MRT or LRT or anything like that.

So they got the special treat of riding the train at KLIA haha.

Can’t see from the picture but the three kids were so happy on the train. We did lots of walking and lots of window shopping and ate a crazy expensive lunch at Burger King.

Our first flight as a family with Aisha

The boys have flown to Saudi Arabia for umrah and to Kuching Sarawak for a wedding. But this was Aisha’s very first time on a plane. Awwww… She’s so cute.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add that I bought the flight tickets months ago, way before I got pregnant, so Mr Ninja was all stressed for weeks leading up to this trip thinking I wouldn’t be allowed to fly and stuff. But it was ok.

My tummy was huuuuuge. 30 weeks during this flight huhu.

Aisha fell asleep shortly after takeoff and didn’t wake up until we reached Phuket.

Our prepaid taxi didn’t show up

Everything was cool when we arrived, except that the taxi that I had pre-booked and already paid for with Expedia didn’t show up. I crai.

We asked the info desk for help but the phone number listed on the booking sheet wasn’t even Thai so they couldn’t “call” the driver. I thought awww shit I got scammed! And I paid like RM150 for this taxi too. Boo.

But luckily, the fella was just late. Like really late. I was annoyed. I had booked the taxi to pick us up at 4pm and he only showed up at like 5pm. It’s ok. We got to the Windmill Phuket Hotel and it was lovely.

Reaching The Windmill Phuket Hotel

It’s a very cute boutique hotel with only around 40 rooms. Quiet, peaceful, and quite hidden away. Definitely my kinda place. If you’re looking for unts-unts-unts kinda hotels with nightlife and all, this is not the place for you!

We got the family room, I think? It came with a HUGE master bedroom/living room and second room with twin beds. Lots and lots of space for small ones to run around and slip and fall and karate kick the balcony door and shatter it into a million pieces. But I’ll get to that later.

There’s a little kitchen-like area at the entrance too. Just a sink and medium sized fridge and kettle and basic pantry stuff like that. It was good. I love this hotel.

Easy peasy dinner at the hotel

There’s one restaurant in the hotel. It’s ok. It ain’t great. It ain’t bad either. I think the food was made for… umm… white people. There was no spice or kick or chili. Kinda sad. But great for the kids.

There’s a little play area next to the restaurant that kept the kids occupied. Food was a bit slow. Children were super happy though. Love them.

And that’s the end of day one in Phuket

Ah. Travelling with kids. It’s a whole new world for us.
