GSC Raises Awareness For Autism Spectrum Disorder With ‘The Specials’ And More
As part of its corporate social responsibility and ongoing efforts to use its platforms as a voice for good, Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) is raising awareness for autism with its latest campaign called “We Are All Special”.
The campaign kicks off with the release of the French movie, ‘The Specials’
The film opens on 24 September in 23 GSC cinemas nationwide including Aurum Theatre. Previously, GSC has screened other inclusive films including ‘Redha’ in 2016 and ‘The Wayang Kids’ in 2018. For every ticket sold, RM1 is donated to selected autism charities and organisations.
‘The Specials’ was originally planned for release in April as part of World Autism Awareness month. Based on a true story, the film brings audiences into the world of Bruno and Malik, who care for autistic children and troubled teenagers respectively.
Both Bruno and Malik train youngsters from difficult neighbourhoods to care for
autism cases categorised as “extremely complex”. It’s a tale of friendship, determination, and connection. The film tugs at the heartstrings, giving movie-goers a brief look into the lives of these special personalities and the strong bond that they forge together.

French directors, Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano, are best known for their previous work, ‘Those Happy Days’ and ‘The Intouchables.’
Priced at RM15 per ticket, ‘The Specials’ is exclusively available at GSC
In addition to the screening, GSC is also organising a charity bazaar, as well as an exhibition of artwork by autistic Malaysian artists
The charity bazaar will be held on 27 September and 4 October at Aurum Theatre, The Gardens Mall. Meanwhile, the art exhibition will be open for two weeks from 24 September to 7 October.
The bazaar, which runs from 11am to 6pm on two consecutive Sundays, lets the public explore and buy from a showcase of merchandise, products, food stuff, and other handmade goodies by children and young adults from the Autism Cafe Project.
Additionally, they can also browse and purchase the works of artists such as the likes of Wan Jamila (artjamila), Amira Daniea (Daniea’s Art), Luqman Hakim, and Yuri Azzari. Entry to the bazaar and exhibition is free-of-charge.
In support of the campaign, GSC has also produced an exclusive shirt in royal blue, featuring the “We Are
All Special” tagline
Available at RM29.90 per piece, this shirt will be on sale at the bazaar, as well as sold online via Keepsake at shop.gsc.com.my. Like The Specials, the sale of each shirt will also see RM1 donated to selected charities and autism-focused organisations.
