Kid-Friendly Lunch At The Colourful LEGO-Inspired BLOKKE Cafe In Citta Mall
We love LEGO. So I was really excited when I found out about BLOKKE. A LEGO-inspired cafe and playhouse that also has multiple classes, including a LEGO-based therapy programme for children with autism? I feel like this place was created for our family.
Anyway, we went to check it out. Long story short, the kids absolutely LOVED it. They loved the cafe. They loved the playground. And although we didn’t try any of the classes, I’m sure they would love that too.
So since BLOKKE is both a cafe and a playhouse, I’m going to split this post into two. Click here for our review of the BLOKKE Playhouse.
Here’s our review of the BLOKKE Cafe
The Food
They provide a variety of Asian and Western dishes, some crazy fusion (like the Burger Masak Lemak) and a good selection of kid-friendly meals, perfect for the picky eater.
I ordered from the children’s menu for Ayub and Sulaiman. They weren’t pleased. They’re used to eating big ol’ adult portions. To be honest, I only saw one side of the menu and didn’t realise there was more on the other side. And staff, although friendly, are not very helpful. But I’ll get to that later!
Ayub had the spaghetti bolognese with chicken. It came on a cute tray with a choice of orange, apple, or watermelon juice (he took watermelon) and jelly for dessert.
Ayub was very upset to have to eat a kiddie meal. Sorry Ayub. He finished everything, but hated the watermelon juice (it was too warm and completely tasteless). Luckily Aisha hardly touched her fries and cake, so Ayub smashed through that.
Sulaiman had the fish and chips. Again, it came with jelly and choice of juice. Very bland, perfect for a picky eater, Sulaiman is not a picky eater however. But he was still happy to chow down on his meal. He didn’t care for the fish so I ate it. Tasted like deep fried cardboard. Very thin fillet. Hardly any meat. No flavour. Quite sad.
Mr Ninja had pasta carbonara. Looks yummy. He said it was ok only. Which is a pretty good review by his picky standards.
I had the BLOKKE burger. Supposedly their signature, or at least recommended, dish. Yeah, it was ok. It wasn’t horrible, nor was it great. It was ok. The burger patty is really juicy but lacks seasoning, and the only sauce they put in the burger is mayo I think. Lots of potential but missed the mark. I love that they put three pickles in there though. Pickles are life.
Little miss fussy Aisha had a basket of fries and red velvet cake. She ate some of the fries and took exactly one nibble of the cake. The boys finished the rest of her food for her.
I actually don’t like red velvet at all, but this cake was really yummy. Moist and chocolatey.
Aisha was perfectly content with her cup of crayons that are provided for free and a scrap of paper. I saw other tables had like A3 handouts of kids puzzles and stuff, we didn’t receive anything like that. The service was a little lacking haha. But it’s ok. Aisha was happy with her paper scrap.
The menu
A lot of options on the menu. Sorry for the crappy pictures. Mains and desserts and kids meals. I think the price is pretty standard for such a cute cafe. I certainly enjoyed my meal. Drinks are pricey, but it is a cafe that specialises in drinks so it’s understandable. They provide free water, which I really appreciated because the kids were super thirsty after playing in the playground for several hours.
Price range is around RM12 (for kids) and RM15 – RM25 (for adult meals).

The Ambiance
Of course, it’s super bright, colourful, and cute. A very welcoming space that is like a massive “come and play” invitation to kids. My three monkeys immediately lit up and ran in the moment the doors opened. That’s why I have hardly any pictures of them. They were too happy. It’s a lovely place. Also very comfortable and clean for adults too.
Loads of space for little ones the run around. And there’s a separate little play area with lots of Duplo for kids to play and build.
AMBIANCE: 5/5
The Service
This is a bit ranty sorry.
I would say the staff are very friendly but not very well trained in the art of customer service. Usually if a customer comes in, I think it’s normal for the staff to acknowledge your arrival, at least with a hello, a smile, a nod, something? We got nothing.
They weren’t mean, they just completely ignored us. Until I said hi, then they would say hi.
We walked through the cafe and no one paid any attention to us. So we went to the playhouse area and again, the staff just ignored us. So Mr Ninja went to the side of the kitchen, which is kinda open concept, and he asked one of the cooks what we’re supposed to do, how do we get tickets etc. And that lady, who was busy prepping food, was like “oh, go to the counter to pay!”
So I went to the counter. And the dude was looking down and totally didn’t notice me. Then I noticed a bunch of forms on the side so I assumed everything was self-service. So I filled out a form for the playhouse and said hi to the dude, and he was like oh hi. And I paid for the tickets to the playhouse.
Then for lunch, it was the same thing. I stood around for a long time and none of the staff approached me or offered to help. So I took one of the order forms on the side table and filled out our lunch order. Went to the counter to pay. Waited a long time before anyone noticed I was there. The counter is really elevated. And I’m very short. I guess they cannot see a potato like me.
Finally a lovely lady took my order and I paid.
I was worried the food would take forever based on the negative reviews I saw on BLOKKE’s Facebook page. But actually, the food arrived at a good time. Only that food came out one by one so by the time Sulaiman got his fish and chips, everyone was done with their meal.
Hmmm… I have to say the waiters were really friendly and nice. Bringing us water and packing our leftovers and checking on us. But the initial part, before I ordered, oh my. They just gotta go up to customers and say “Hi, can I help you? Do you want to order something? This is what you have to do…” Something like that lah.
I dunno. I want to give them 5/5 because they are really friendly and nice once you get their attention, but it’s like really hard to get their attention. Haha. And it wasn’t even packed when we were there. It was 10.30am and we were like the third family there.
SERVICE: 3/5
Final Thoughts
I would never come here just for the food. It’s definitely just the most convenient place to eat after the kids are done playing in the playhouse. The food is ok, but not outstanding. Maybe their unique desserts are better? Or the fancy drinks? I didn’t try so I don’t know.
I cannot imagine anyone without kids coming here for a cup of coffee or a meal haha. It’s definitely a family restaurant.
I would for sure come back to eat the next time we come to play at BLOKKE, but I won’t order the kids meals again.
