From the start of the week when we decided to dance for the PM we had no idea how we were gonna pull it off, and as the time grew nearer we were panicking and stressing and were hoping for a miracle. The Pagi Rock Crew had a trial flashmob run earlier on in the parade:
It did not go well. It did not go at all. We were so far from our booth we couldn’t hear any music. People were wrapped up in the parade and didn’t give a monkey’s about us. And the PM and Agong were so far from view they weren’t in even in view. You know what I mean?
It was 9.45am. We had 15 minutes left of the show. We had no one. NOT A SINGLE PERSON AGREED TO DANCE WITH US. Hafiz was losing hope. Prem had no hope. We were starting to panic. All the hype. All the support. And nothing to show for it. We were holding the torch for the entire station to perform Super Kampung Style for the PM and Agong. In all honesty, the parade had ended. People were packing up and leaving. When suddenly, a small group of people came up to the Fly booth. They were listeners. Wanting to join. Wanting to dance. Shouts of joy from the Fly team. Then more people showed up. The random boys we met on the street. My old uni friend and his buddies. The Giler Battle Crew from Showdown. Out of nowhere. We had built a mob…

Flashmob time: the Showdown crews showed up at the 11th hour… |
|
With all the noise they made, others started joining, and word spread, and spread, and spread… |
|
BAM! Helluva lot of people mmmkay! |
We did it! The timing was incredible. 20 seconds before the song was aired, the celebs walked out from their interview. And that’s how we got Elfira Loy and Awal Ashaari and others…
|
Post-flashmob and Prem was drenched in sweat. |

This is the last photo I took before my phone died. This little girl, whose name escapes me, persuaded her mom to come find us because she wanted to dance Gangnam Style with us 🙂 |
