[REVIEW] Tiger Family School Bags Are Ergonomic But Are They Worth It?

Tiger Family school bags are one of the top recommendations from parents so I decided to check them out at Atria Shopping Gallery.

Ayub has been using the same Star Wars backpack for the past four years (we got it at Parkson), while Sulaiman’s been through like three or four school bags since he entered Primary School two years ago? Sulaiman’s used Parkson bags, Tesco bags, all affordable/cheap kinda bags.

But none of them have lasted.

So I asked a bunch of parents for advice on school bags and almost everyone recommended “Tiger Bags”

The brand is actually called Tiger Family. It’s from Hong Kong but uses technology patented in Germany. They specialise in ergonomic backpacks made for kids, from kindergarten to high school.

You can buy it online. But, unless you know what you’re doing, I recommend going to the Tiger Family shop in Atria Shopping Gallery for help. Coz it’s kinda a lot. And it’s good for the kids to try on the bags before you buy too.

Because they are very expensive.

(And also because you don’t wanna be like me and buy a Deuter backpack on Shopee for your primary aged child only for it to arrive in the mail and be super cute and tiny and made for toddlers hahaha.)

There are five sizes available – XS, S, M, L, and XL

It’s best to get the Tiger Family staff to help you get the right bag for your kiddo. But this is the general height guideline.

Ayub is 145cm so he got the XL, while Sulaiman is around 135cm so he got the L.

Here are Ibrahim and Aisha rocking their lil XS and S bags respectively haha. We didn’t buy them bags but they are king and queen of FOMO so just spent their time strutting around with backpacks on.

There are several backpack series, and within each series are different designs and colours

It’s quite confusing lah. M has the most amount of series.

Luckily for me, L and XL only had two series each. So you just pick one series, then choose a design you like within that series. Hehe.

This was Sulaiman’s L choice:

Sulaiman chose the Alpine design from the MAX Cube series (L) for RM389 (sale price) and it came with a free hand carry bag that’s just the right size for a lunch box, water bottle, and cutlery.

This was Ayub’s XL choice:

Ayub chose the Mountain design from the Max 2.0 series (XL) for RM345.60 (sale price) and it also came with a free hand carry bag.

Price range is like RM340-RM390 per bag, more if you buy a full set

And those were sale prices. The original prices were RM500++.

Pretty heavy pricetag ooo yeah. But if it’s as good as other parents say it is, then I guess it’s worth it. The bags are really comfortable.

They have a huge capacity to fit all the kids’ books and stuff. Plus, the straps come with padding like hiking bags, and a chest and stomach strap to distribute the weight and pressure off the back and shoulders.

See, so much space in the L bag:

There are also large side pockets, big enough to fit a 2-litre water bottle, as well as front pockets. This is the back. See the strap. Nais.

I think I’ve spent the same amount of money on all the cheap bags that Sulaiman used over two years that kept breaking and also hurt his back.

They come with a warranty and any damage will be fixed for free if you bring it back to the store

I’m sure there are terms and conditions but it’s still good to know.

There are also schooling accessories that remind me of Smiggle

I’ve bought Smiggle stuff before. So so cute. But I feel the quality is pretty shit. Got Ayub a pair of headphones that cost over RM100 for school and they broke within two months. Sed.

Anyway, the boys are happy with their purchase

They carry a huge amount of books every day and were able to fit everything comfortably, along with their pencil cases, colouring pencils, water bottles, hand sanitiser, extra face masks, and other things.

Hopefully it will give their spines support for many years to come!

So… are Tiger Family school bags worth it?

I dunno man. The kids have been using their bags for two days. So far so good? They’re comfy and roomy and the chest and tummy straps offer more support. The kids carry a huge amount of super heavy books. I guess, if you can afford it, then why not?

I feel pretty broke after buying the two bags tbh. But if they really last as long as other people say (10 years at least!) and they really offer back support like what the brand says… Then I guess anything for our kiddos is worth it, right?

Ask me again in 2031.
