Sunway Lagoon Is The Kids’ New Favourite Water Park Ever Ever Ever
Sunway Lagoon isn’t new. But it is to the kids. Even though both Ayub and Sulaiman have been there several times before. Long time ago. When they were wee. All they know is Austin Heights Water Park in Johor Bahru, which we’ve visited twice. Sunway Lagoon is like 100 million times larger and more fun.
Here’s me and Ayub when he was 2 years old and Sulaiman in my tummy.
And us at the Sunway Wildlife Park when i was doing something for FlyFM I don’t remember anymore. So cute Ayub. I love this picture.
Special birthday package at Sunway Lagoon
Sulaiman wanted to go somewhere fun for his 6th birthday. So I wanted to bring the kids to Dreamworld Playland in the Starling but Mr Ninja was like nuuuuu it’s so boring. So we went to Sunway Lagoon instead. They have special birthday promos so it was only RM360 for our family of 4 (Aisha is free) because Mr Ninja’s birthday is in February.
I have no idea how much tickets are normally. RM100++ per person I assume.
Anyway. It was an awesome day. We played in Sunway Lagoon from 10am til 6pm. Aisha fell asleep at 5pm and woke up at home a few hours later with a big grin on her face saying, “SWIM!” Too late babyhead y u sleep?
Getting our stuff together at the beginning was a mess
We decided last minute that we wanted to go to Sunway Lagoon. So I forgot to pack a bunch of important things. OK, it wouldn’t have mattered if we planned to go a week, month, or year in advance, I would still have packed last minute and forgot a bunch of stuff.
We ended up with two huge bags and Mr Ninja was like “do we need all this stuff?!” and I was like YAAAAS! and we reached the park and I had forgotten to bring the kids floaties and towels. Lol.
Mr Ninja had to buy new floaties and towels. They are EXPENSIVE inside the park. Please bring your own next time.
Ohhhh! And I packed a loaf of bread for Aisha to munch on because she’s weird like that and just really loves sliced bread. Like, it’s one of the only things this picky eater will happily eat any time of the day. The loaf of bread was not allowed into the park at the bag check section. So Mr Ninja had to walk it all the way back to the car in the basement of Sunway Pyramid to keep it away. I offered to eat the whole loaf on the spot for lolz. Mr Ninja did not lol.
The kids got balloon thingies at the entrance. First Aisha got a sword and she was like hell yeah! Then the guy was like, OH YOU CANNOT HAVE A SWORD YOU’RE A GIRL! And he TOOK IT AWAY and gave her this stupid flower. She was not impressed. I was pissed. Aisha dismantled it, stomped it with her foot, and we threw it in the dustbin soon after.
Sunway Lagoon tips for noobs
1. Use the second locker room
The first locker room you walk by before you enter the water park is always packed with noobs and tourists. Just skip that and walk through the Lagoon and down to the surf beach area. Use those lockers instead. No queue.
Sorry I didn’t take any proper pictures of anything because it was a really messy morning and I was just enjoying the moment with the kids. Have some pictures of Aisha instead:
2. Top up your wristband with minimum RM200
The paper wristbands you get to enter Sunway Lagoon act like an e-wallet. You can top them up with cash or debit/credit card, then store all your stuff in the locker and just swipe your wristband if you want to buy anything. That includes from the shops or restaurants. It’s brilliant. They didn’t have this 5 years ago I think?
Anyway, Mr Ninja topped up RM150 into his wristband and it ended up not being enough (because I forgot to pack floaties and towels so he had to buy all those things). So he had to keep walking back to the locker to take out his wallet to re-top up his wristband. So just top up RM200 at one shot.
Also, if you’re with a partner, split the top up. Like RM100 on each wristband. Because once Mr Ninja and I were separated, I was without any cash or means to buy stuff, like snacks or drinks for a fussy Aisha.
3. Go on the rides and slides first
I mean duh, there’s less of a crowd and hardly any queues. Aisha is too little so she hung out with me all day. Mr Ninja took the boys to the Vuvuzela and other water slides. Sulaiman’s first time. He loved it. So cute. No relevant pictures sorry. Just more of me and Aisha 😛
4. Buy one of those waterproof phone pouches BEFORE you go to Sunway Lagoon
The day before we went to Sunway Lagoon, Mr Ninja and I went on a date in 1 utama without the monsters and we were in this shop that sold waterproof pouches for phones for RM10. I was like, hey we should buy this! And he was like, nah what for? And I was like, I dunno maybe we will need it the next time we go to a water park! Then he was like, we aren’t going anywhere.
The next day we went to Sunway Lagoon. And he had to shell out RM50 for a waterproof phone pouch in their shop. They are so useful to keep your phone and cash and stuff.
5. Be prepared to walk super far to get to Nickelodeon Park Lost Lagoon
It is faaaar… Walk past the Surf Beach and through the X-treme Park, keep going and you’ll eventually reach Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon Park whatever it’s called.
6. Awesome slides have a min height requirement of 120cm at Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon
So unfortunately Sulaiman couldn’t go on any of the slides. There was one that he did get past but there had to be a minimum of 4 people and who would look after Aisha if I went on a water slide with them? So yeah. No sliding for short people.
Sulaiman, Aisha, and I just hung out at the wave pools and playgrounds instead.
All the kid-friendly things in Sunway Lagoon
The World’s Largest Surf Pool
The fake sand kinda sucks. It hurts. Mostly small pebbles. But the rest of the surf pool is awesome. At 4pm they release the giant waves and they are REALLY gigantic.
The wave pool
I don’t even know if this if what it’s actually called sorry.
Kiddie swimming pool
Both the boys can put their feet on the floor in this pool. So I guess the water level is around 1m or less? No waves. Just blue water. So relaxing.
There’s a teeny tiny jacuzzi for teeny tiny people.
This random halfway shower pool thing
This is on the way to the second playground, up the stairs.
The big water playground at the bottom
The small water playground at the top
Everything has a proper name but I can’t remember them and I don’t care to look them up but you will figure it out once you’re there.
Other stuff that I can think of
Food
Bring your own water bottles.
Hmmm… for lunch we ordered a large pizza for RM75 (I think?), french fries (I don’t know how much they were) and chicken wings for RM10. Expensive lunch. But it was actually very tasty and we were all super hungry and there were still leftovers. So it’s all good.
Ice cream is a must. I think these small milo ice cream cups were like RM3 each?
Sunscreen
Don’t forget to wear lots of sunscreen. It is hot and bright out there. No burns for us but very brown little bodies huhuhu.
The photographers
The Sunway Lagoon in-house photographers kinda suck. I love taking pictures at attractions with the cheesy backdrops and buying the overpriced prints at the end of it. I’ve bought at the Bird Park KL, Petrosains, LEGOLAND, Zoo Negara, and Sunway Lagoon loads of times. It’s just a fun souvenir.
Whenever I saw a photographer, I’d call him over to take some family pictures. We had three rounds of pictures taken. When we went to view them at the end of the day, all the pictures were HORRIBLE. Hahahaha. Everybody looking this way that way. Arms blocking faces. Faces looking backwards. Yeah. Train your photographers Sunway Lagoon. And find a better way to locate people’s photographs. Took forever.
So no pictures of Mr Ninja. Sorry Mr Ninja.
Yeah. Awesome day out. Love love love it. Thank you Sunway Lagoon!
