Ayub Is Starring In A Few Kids Invade SAYS Videos And He’s Cute But Annoying

SAYS started a new video series called Kids Invade and it’s mostly annoying but also a bit cute. Omg how could you say that? This is my blog so I can say whatever I want. Anyway, Ayub has been in three videos so far and I think the third one will probably be the last one because his ADHD was so clearly showing hahaha. Love him.

So originally, Ayub was supposed to be part of a 4-part series. But after shooting two videos, he decided he hated it (and was angry with me for asking him to do it) and didn’t want to be in any more videos ever forever stop asking me Mama.

1. Kids Invade SAYS: Kids Draw & Adults Guess

After the initial audition, this was the first proper video Ayub shot. My desk is right outside the studio and it was just chaos and havoc. Of course Ayub’s team name would be “Butt” and their chant would be “butt butt butt” while they continuously slap their butts. -_-

Behind-the-scenes

Initially he was reluctant because he thinks he’s really bad at drawing (hello, he’s not, he built a business around his drawings). And I was really really nervous because:

  1. Ayub freaks out under pressure and it can lead to a meltdown
  2. His speech and comprehension are still lacking, which might look awkward on video
  3. People are assholes and I don’t want anyone to say mean things about Ayub in the comments

Also, he once played a pictionary-type game during speech therapy and had a meltdown because he wasn’t able to draw the word “queen.” As an autistic person, Ayub takes things very literally. So when he saw queen, he thought he had to actually draw a real queen, as in a person. It took a lot of explaining and assuring that it was enough to draw a cartoony crown on top of a cartoony female face.

Anyway. I was worried. But he had a great time. See the final video:

2. Kids Invade SAYS: Kids Try Eating Weird Animal Parts

The second video shoot made me even more nervous. Ayub is a VERY picky eater. Since he was a toddler, his diet has consisted of plain noodles, white rice, and plain pasta. Now he’s upgraded a little and can actually eat chicken. But otherwise, still super picky. It’s a sensory thing I’m sure. He can eat a spoonful of rice and take out a tiny speck of onion from it.

This video was about kids eating weird animal parts omg.

Once again, I totally underestimated Ayub. He did great! In fact, he ate everything and said he liked it. Funny poyo weirdo. After this shoot he refused to do any more shoots and started getting angry with me for forcing him to be in videos though. So. Maybe he actually hated doing this video idk.

3. Kids Invade SAYS: Artist Draws Kids’ Future Malaysia

So after the weird animal parts one, Ayub refused to do more. I think it’s mostly because none of the videos up to that point had been edited and released so he couldn’t imagine what it would be like. It just seemed like a lot of work for him to put on a front for the camera?

Anyway, the SAYS team wrapped up the final two videos and started releasing them. I showed Ayub his videos and he laughed and laughed like it was the funniest shit in the world. After that he decided he did like making videos. Which was great because we got a sponsored video in from PETRONAS and Ayub was chosen as a talent.

This was a super long shoot. The kids were in front of the camera for more than 4 hours. Ayub’s autism and ADHD was out in full bloom haha. I wasn’t on set. But according to Jenna, who was in charge, Ayub was fiddling with all the things on the table, shaking his legs, staring off into space, staring intently at a pen in his hand, touching the painting non-stop, and generally just being Ayub. Plus, his answers were a bit… hmmm… wonky. Haha.

There’s a lot of talking in the video. I mean the kids have to explain what a future Malaysia looks like to them. Ayub isn’t very good with words as you know. Speech therapy once a week for two years now. Plus, he’s not the most diplomatic person in the world. Very clear cut, black and white. His future Malaysia consisted of “lots of war and people fighting.” He was heavily edited haha.
I think this GIF of Ayub sums it all up:

Super super proud of him regardless!
