Easy Activities For Kids So You Can Work From Home With Less Distractions
Week 1 of the Movement Control Order was pretty chill. It was school holidays. So the plan was to have no plan. Just Netflix, screen time, play, play, play. But then… jeng jeng jeng.
Week 2 has been a little harder. I’m working from home full time now so I need simple and fun activities to keep the kids occupied.
I’ll be honest, they get a lot of screen time. This screen time comes in the form of brainless YouTube videos (the boys are into gameplays) and video games. Roblox and Minecraft.
Anyway. Blabbering on.
Easy activities for the kids so you can work from home with less distractions
1. Puzzles
I bought the boys a 300-piece puzzle on Lazada for RM20. It came within two days. I thought it would last them at least a week. They completed it the next day.
At the beginning they moaned and whined and complained and said it was “soooooo haaaaard.”
But as the puzzle started to come together, they got more and more excited. When the final piece went in, ahhhh, you could feel the sense of accomplishment.
Anyhoo. They love it so much we’ve ordered another 300-piece puzzle. Will see how long that one takes to complete 🙂
I also bought a wooden baby puzzle for Ibrahim and kiddy puzzles for Aisha.
2. Journaling
Sulaiman has been journaling since he was two or three years old. Very cute and strange and wonderful journals. Full of things he loves. Words, numbers, shapes.
Now that he’s older, his journal pages are obstacle courses that he’s drawn out. With a leader board. Pages and pages of leader boards. From preliminaries to quarters to semis to finals.
Anyway, Aisha started her first journal today. She can’t read of write yet. I love her journal so much.
3. Online schooling
We’re using education.com but I think the kids are starting to get bored of it. Even though it’s only been 5 days. Lazy bums. Sulaiman is the best. He has like 40 trophies. I think Aisha has close to 30. And Ayub… has less than 20.
Anyway, we ordered a printer. Like a real homeschool family. So once that arrives, the kids can do worksheets. MUAHAHAHAHAHA!
4. Audible books
Since the global “lockdown,” Audible has made a lot of their children’s books available for free. Sulaiman is listening to an audiobook right now. It’s a Minecraft book. -_-
5. Actual books
Everyone reads for an hour a day. Usually in the morning. Sulaiman reads the most. He’s probably read every book in the house by now.
Ibrahim and Aisha love reading. Or rather, being read to. But still, even on their own they flip through pages and talk about what they see.
Ayub is… challenging.
6. Painting
I didn’t take pictures of Aisha painting so you can have a pic of her practising letters instead.
Art block and poster paint are your friend.
7. Force them to play together
The best thing about having more than one kid is they can play together. I mean, they all fight as well. But for the most part there’s laughter and conversation, secret whispers and sneaky giggles.
Siblings are the best.
8. Writing postcards
I love postcards. I love stickers. I love stationery. I miss Stickerrific.
The kids wrote and decorated postcards to send to people we love. Grandparents, uncle, friends.
9. Let them be bored
Once they get over the whining and complaining, they find something to do on their own. Meh. Kids are cool.
Wow, you are doing great, creating and occupying your kids with full time activities! I agree with you, having more than kid, at least you can hear noise, whether laughter or cries, it is still noise to create a lively home!
