HOMESCHOOLING: I Bought Ayub A Drum Kit As Part Of School

Since withdrawing Ayub from school, we basically decided to only do things that are fun. Because school is supposed to be fun. Because learning is fun!

So I bought Ayub a drum kit as part of our “homeschool curriculum.” (Can you tell that I have no idea what I’m doing?)

The way I see it, there are loads of benefits to learning how to play the drums:

• Occupational therapy – drums focus on cardio, building stamina, building core strength, as well as toning arms and legs.
• Hand-eye coordination – lots of it.
• Music therapy – it’s literally a musical intrument.
• Discipline – from the hours of practice and learning new songs and all that.
• Stimming – Ayub is constantly stimming. I saw this as a good outlet for him to express himself.
• Learning a new skill – always a good thing.
• It makes him happy – always the best thing.

Yeah. Definitely see this as a positive addition to our homeschool!

I don’t know anything about drums so Jeremy did everything

He bought the drum kit and set it up and held the first class and everything it was the best.

I know Danial looks really unhappy here but it was because of a work thing and shoes so yeah, he’s actually really happy to be carrying that big ass box to my car in the basement.

Setting up the drum kit was havoc

It came in a giant box like a coffin and inside were tons of little boxes.

So many excited squeals and giggles

Jeremy must have been like wtf u dun pay me enuf 4 dis

Sulaiman was always in the way and always helping

It was such a happy day, I love this day

Aisha sang and danced and air drummed

And finally it was done

And they had their first class

He’s much better now. I should record a new video. I couldn’t afford the amp so we have to use headphones. But it’s ok.

Ayub practises every day for an hour. I love him.
