3D2N Grand Lexis Port Dickson Review After MCO
Since we entered RMCO and interstate travel is now allowed, Mr Ninja and I decided to treat the kids to a quick staycation to Grand Lexis in Port Dickson before schools reopen.
Why Grand Lexis Port Dickson?
- It’s a short drive from KL
- There’s a private pool attached to every room
- The hotel is beautiful, comfortable, and kid-friendly
- At around RM600 per night, it’s still more affordable compared to other hotels offering private swimming pools
- We didn’t want to be in public swimming pools yet
- Beach holiday!
I’ve stayed at Lexis Port Dickson (great for couples), Grand Lexis Port Dickson (great for families), and Lexis Hibiscus Port Dickson (luxe life).
Grand Lexis Port Dickson is by far my favourite place to stay with family. It’s pretty much on par with Lexis Hibiscus, but it doesn’t have the cute hibiscus shaped layout. The rooms in Grand Lexis are HUGE. IMO bigger than Hibiscus. Even the private swimming pool is larger.
Best part is that Grand Lexis is cheaper 🙂
If you’re worried about going on staycations, here’s what it’s like:
- Hotels here are fully booked, full capacity, lots and lots of people but…
- Hotel staff are super prepared. Temperature scans, contact tracing, hand sanitiser, markers all over the floor to keep everyone at least 1m apart, everyone wearing masks.
- Check-in process – one person per family in line, others get to lepak in the hotel restaurant. QR code, temp scan, hand sanitiser, then sit and wait to be called. Very efficient and safe. (still took us an hour to check in coz sooooo many people but it’s ok, welcome drinks available and super friendly staff)
- Hotel breakfast. No more buffet spread. Food is plated for you. Just take and go. Nasi lemak, bihun goreng with kari ayam, western brekkie (omelette, baked beans, sausages, curly fries), fruits etc. Every station has a dedicated person, handing out food, pouring juice and hot drinks. No self-service.
- 5. Big hotel swimming pools still closed (will be opened on 1 July but with strict SOP). If you’re coming here, make sure to book a room with private pool (not all of them have). Super worth it. Very private. High walls cannot see neighbours, only see the seaaaaa!
- It’s so so nice to be out of the house and enjoying a staycation. Lucky Malaysia is gorgeous. 🇲🇾 Best country in the world. Can holiday in every corner. 10/10 would recommend. ❤️
Check-in at Grand Lexis Port Dickson
- When you enter the lobby, you’ll have to queue up to scan the QR code. Only ONE person is allowed during the check-in process. Family members can relax at the coffee house, there are free welcome drinks. It’s comfortable.
2. A hotel staff will let you know when you can move to this side to sit and wait for your turn to check in. Socially distancing chairs huhu.
3. Finally when it’s your turn, the hotel staff will usher you to queue up at the front desk to check in. Blah blah, pay, get room keys.
It took us around an hour to check-in because the hotel was PACKED with so many people. Reception said they were fully booked. But even with a lot of people, the process was very efficient and everyone moved through the line quite fast.
Excellent service.
The Executive Pool Villa is amazing
Two massive king sized beds. I swear they are the most comfortable beds in the world. Fluffy pillows and the kind of mattress where you can lie down and not feel the child jumping 10cm away from you. I love it.
This is the pantry, which connects the bedroom to the bathroom. Comes with microwave, kettle, coffee, tea, and all that stuff. (We brought all those snacks ourselves huhu)
Me and Gowri call this the mayat hole. It’s in the middle of the room. It’s a view of the sea below. We imagine if we stare into it too long, we’ll see a mayat float to the top. We don’t look at it much.
The bathroom. So pretty. The shower has the best view of the open sea.
And of course, the private swimming pool! IIRC it’s 120cm deep. Nice and clean and loads of fun. There’s an outdoor shower and a view of the sea. NOBODY can see you. It’s completely private. Can swim naked if you want.
In terms of safety, there are TWO different doors leading out to the pool. The first is sliding wooden doors with high locks so kids cannot reach. Then there are the doors you see below, which are incredibly heavy. Both Aisha and Ibrahim pushed and pushed and couldn’t get them open.
This is the view from the pantry. Uhhh ignore the mess.
The pool is the door on the left, pantry is the door to the right. Even the pantry door has high locks so you can lock it at night and not worry about your kids wandering off/trying to get to the pool.
More photos of the private swimming pool because it’s the best part of the hotel
Villa on the water
I think every villa faces out, so you never face your neighbour. That’s the best.
Our villa was like a 5-10 minute walk from the main building. But there are buggies around all the time to bring you wherever you need to go.
But the walk was really nice too. The baby loved to stop and watch the water.
Hotel breakfast 🙁
All the hotel restaurants were closed due to social distancing. Only one place was open. I can’t remember the name. Roselle something maybe. And that’s where they served breakfast. No buffet breakfast though 🙁
Scan QR code or write down you name and number, hand sanitise, 1 metre social distancing with markers on the floor, spaced out tables…
The food is already served on plates, you just take and go. I don’t mind. But. The food was REALLY bad. Tasteless, bland, just very sad sad food.
I expect a nice hotel like Grand Lexis to have proper chefs who can at least cook a decent bihun goreng or nasi lemak. But it was AWFUL. Borderline inedible.
I dunno. Maybe they fired their chefs during MCO to cut costs and decided to just microwave frozen food once they reopened. It was not good.
This is all the food that’s available at Grand Lexis, until the rest of the restaurants open
Printed in black and white on A4 paper. I assume it’s only temporary. Hopefully they’ll get their food quality back to where it should be.
The beach is around a 15 minute walk away
A buggy driver was kind enough to drive us to the beach because he happened to be going in that direction anyway. But even the walk, it’s just next to the hotel.
Too lazy to upload pics. Just see my insta post haha.
It’s a public beach. Not very clean. But shallow waters and the kids loved playing in the sand.
The public swimming pool was closed while we were there. But should be open by the time you book.
I definitely recommend Grand Lexis Port Dickson
It’s a great stay. Even though they were at full capacity while we were there, we rarely saw any other guests.
The room is amazing, the pool is great, the staff are really friendly and helpful.
Lacking a bit in terms of maintenance and upkeep. Not as clean as it could be. I found two screws on the bedroom floor and the grate of the swimming pool was broken and poking out (quite dangerous).
We visited the week hotels were allowed to open, so maybe they didn’t have time to get everything in order.
Will definitely go back again and again.
